Had fun with a Boxster on the way home last night.
M4 about 7.30pm and a yellow Boxster appears in my mirror, flashing his lights for me to move out of the way.
Now, considering I was behind a Pug 306 and there were 2 lorries trying to see whose limiter was set the fastest in lanes 1 and 2 there really wasn't anywhere for me to go.
So, down from 6th to 4th and hold the revs at about 6k waiting for the Pug to pull over, with Mr. Garage Jewelry bursting a blood vessel behind.....
Pug pulls over, I hold the speed (about 70-80 - kph of course) just to give my friend in his teutonic tart-mobile a bit more time to admire my rump (and of course, to up his blood pressure and really give him something to flash about). Predictably, he cuts inside and tries to go round in the midlle lane.
Upon which I hit the loud pedal and give my palpitating friend a lesson in patience, as I vtec neatly up to the side of another pair of racing lorries and slow to let him catch up, as he seems to have fallen behind a little....
One more dose of vtec away from the lorries and he is, once again losing ground in an un-becoming manner for a Porker, so I pull in and let him pass (my point, I think having beed made adequately), by which time he has managed to wind the Boxster up to a licence losing rate of knots and flies past me (that taught me I can tell you ) while seeming to be offering me some freshly ground coffee out of the passenger side window....

Great... I just love the CTR.

The thing is I was always into performance cars, and I had this yen for an out and out 2 seater soft top. When you have that sort of itch, then you really should scratch it. So.... after the Boxster and TT test drives, it was the S... No contest! I would have kept it the full three years, but the launch of the CTR AE30 rather forced my hand by a couple of months

Glad I've been there, but as an only car, the S can be a pain at times, as Craig discovered when he came over with a passenger, to pick up the bike rack on Sunday.

THINGS I MISS ABOUT THE S....

Dropping the top... of course!

That last 1000 revs!

The digital speedo/tacho is the most inspired aid to performance driving.

I DON'T MISS....

The blind spots with the top up

The plastic rear window.

Craning my neck to see under the windscreen at traffic lights.

The water running all down your arm and the inside of the door when you opened the window in the rain!

Lack of storage space.

I'm chuffed to f*ck with the CTR, it's a fantastic blend of performance, style and practicality, I'm so glad I got the Recaro seats. If I could have opted out of the tints I would, but they so cut down on headlight glare in your mirror at night. At

I had a good go against a yellow Boxter S on the M1. I joined at 27 and there was a Boxter in the fast lane so I pull up behind him and we are held up by traffic so I held it in 4th and when the traffic moves over we both nailed it up to a silly speed for a moment then we both backed off but I was gaing very slightly on him. Both off at 29 he gets a break at the roundabout and I follow hardly anything in it really, he turns off so I give him a flash and he returns with a wave. I have had a couple of Boxters be very chummy. I also had a 50mph onward drag against a 3ltr z3 and managed to creep past him very slowly.
