Thumbs up Clutch / Diff Noise?

After a few weeks of having my S2 (MY02 with 5.5k) last November I noticed an occasional "gravely" sound when pulling away. I took it into Honda straight away, suspecting it to be something wrong with the clutch. They took it out for a drive but could not find anything wrong, and to be fair I've not had any further occurrence until recently.

Now it is back I really want to get it sorted. My cars warranty runs out in April and I would like to get any necessary work completed before then. I've heard about some people having noisy clutches replaced under warranty and suspect I may have this problem. However, I am in no way mechanically minded and I am wary that it could also be a diff problem.

The sound only occurs every now and then. When it does occur it is only in 1st and 2nd, or at least that's when I can hear it. It also only occurs on initial clutch engagement and it stops once the revs get going.

Could any one who has had a noisy clutch replace confirm what it sounded like and give me any more info? Are my symptoms typical?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Nick

Should have mentioned it at the meet I am sure that someone could have gone out with you to have a listen if indeed it was making the noise at the meet. This does not sound like the normal clutch noise that some have had sorted under warranty. The 054 clutch change is heard on over run say coming down from 4,000 rpm to idle whilst slowing but still in gear. excessive noise can be heard. Your seems to be low speed and increasing in speed. take the car to the dealers and either go out with them or leave it with them for a number of days.

Perhaps this is a normal sound? I am more than welcome to have a listen one evening/weekend

Cheers Rob

From the description, my 1st thought was that it was normal, and was just the engine struggling at low revs. Mine does it when setting off at low revs in 2nd.

Its the hub, need to torque the hub nut up to around 220lbs,

Also warrning folk you must take the nut off once a year fill with grease and replace!!!!!!! Some dealers don't do this check and ask the Q.

All,

Thanks for your replies!

Rob,

Thanks for the offer. It was not making the sound last weekend. It also does not seem to be making it now. Having read the FAQ (doh!) it seems the noisy clutch is on acceleration, as you point out, so I am less confident that this is the problem (if indeed it is a problem). I may take you up on the offer to meet up one evening, though not sure when at the moment. I will drop you a pm some time next week when I know what I am doing.

GTFCTIM,

It's not the engine struggling, the noise sounds like it is coming from the gear box but is very intermittent.

s2000silvervtec ,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll drop by the dealer and suggest this to them to try this. I'll let you know if it solves the problem.

Nick
