Is it an older car ?
It is probably more likely to be the clutch as this is a known fault for MY's 99's, 00's and 01's IIRC fitted with the 054 type clutch. Most cars had clutched replaced under warranty for similar "problems" and have been uprated with the 055 clutch

It is a MY00.
I still have an extended warranty on it. Does that mean I should be able to get it replaced?
Does this definitely sound like the symptoms? Do you think it is worth a try?
