yup i had the same thing... i had never had a problem starting it till i tried to start it standing outside the car.... and nothing happened

I've never started any car with my foot on the clutch. IIRC it puts load on the thrust bearing & causes premature failure.

If that's the case it would seem a very odd thing for a manufacturer to do!

funny that,i always do that as it takes less effort for the battery to spin less mass.try it, car spins up easier.also much easier on clutch etc that hard launchs which i presume we all do "occassionialy"

Not as much as sitting in gear whilst in traffic.

Originally, it was a good idea to declutch in winter, to save battery overloads. Probably a good idea wit the S; the battery is small.

The safety device aspect is designed for the US & Jp, where slushboxes are common; people are more likely inadvertently to start in gear.

I have this safety feature in mine but has been deactivated due to Intellistart fitted, so now I can start it without pressing the clutch.
