Clutch replacement
Is there something perculiar about the location/complexity of a clutch on an S that makes it expensive to replace?
I have an import coming up for around about 45k miles, it's a little early to be replacing the clutch but I happened to mention it to the importer I bought it from and (as he is a genuinely friendly chap) he offered to consider going halves on it. I have had a couple of cars off him and have only had this one 2 months. He said to get some quotes and let him know.
I was thinking along the lines of about

Thanks very much for the advice. The quotes were actually given BEFORE I mentioned the i word.... then a sound of sucking air through teeth followed and they said "hmmm, shouldn't be a big problem but sometimes parts are different".
I've just fired off a mail to the dealer I got the car from telling him the quote prices... I guess I'll see if he still agrees to go halves, it is a wear & tear item after all.
Unless there is anyone in the Essex area watching this who knows a better place to go??

TDI at barking or go for a uprated clutch from hardtopguy.com cost is about $400 which is a very cheap way to getting a new clutch.
dealer should only charege for 3 hours labour this way.
