Default Clutch Whirr?

I failed to find what I was after using the search so thought I'd post. Apologies if this has been asked before...

I noticed yesterday that in my S when its stationary and idling in neutral I can here a kind of whiring noise. If I then put my foot on the clutch the noise disappears, but then release the clutch and it comes back.

I am sure I read something about this on here before, but I can't remeber what or where! Anyone know anything about this? Is this normal or should I get this checked out?

Cheers!

this is normal to some degree, but it depends on how loud it is. If its not very loud then its just the input shaft rotating in the gearbox which is what its designed to do. If its loud, it means that there is a worn bearing in the gearbox. I have it on my car and was worried about it initally because i have an over developed sense of mechanical sympathy. But its hardly noticeable, hasn't changed in 20k miles, didn't change when i had the clutch release bearing changed, nor when the gearbox oil was changed. I've since then found that every other s2000 i've been in makes the same noise.

So unless you think its noticeably loud, don't worry about it!

Its not that loud, I seem to have good hearing and an ability to here annoying sounds....

I'll keep an 'ear' on it to see if it changes over time.

Cheers!

unless it's loud or gets louder it's not a problem. In a lot of gearboxes it actually caused by the layshaft / input shaft. (No I'm not going to explain further if you can't work out the shorthand )

Edit - spelling!!!!!
