cold air intake
Just thought I would post some pic's of what I have done to the intake box, its not finished yet as I need to add a heat shield. I was not sure if it made much difference but I swapped it back to the original box over the weekend and I noticed the loss of power, its not much but its there. The noise is more but its not so loud as to make a motorway drive uncomfortable.

like the DIY approach...
but why do you think it will be colder from that intake point than the front one??
did you measure before and after intake temps?
where will the heatshield go?

It is colder in that position as the air comes from the side of the radiator from the front and the hole where you access the headlights. I have made lots of temp readings and it runs around 6 degrees colder from that point. I have made a shroud that covers from the side of the air box to the inner wing this stops it sucking hot air when the car is not moving. When I get it to fit properly and its painted I will add a photo
interested to see the final thing..
having tried something similar...found that the static / traffic condition is almost impossible to prevent high temps.. i.e there is so little air being sucked through at idle..that the airbox just gets hotter and hotter from the engine block...until it reaches steady state of about 56deg C.. which is typically what most S2000's will be getting without CAI's.

Yes I have seen that, it usualy comes from the plastic box soaking up the heat. I have insulated the box with reflective tape on the underside and will fit a lagging jacket to the rubber hose. I have even concidered fitting a 12 volt fan to draw out the hot air from under the bonnet, boats use this type to prevent a build upof explosive fumes in the engine bay.

I had a bastard kangaroo moment this morning which went on for a good 1000m after I got moving again. The engine was dying on its arse till I cleared out all the hot air under the bonnet.
Someone posted the other day about leaving their engine running when they washed the car, and that will be exactly the same thing I got today. Just a build up of shitty hot air.
I'm up for a home made job if we can find a good solution.
