Default Compression Ratio

Now i've come across this "fact" table on wikipedia, now before anyone starts I know 99.9% of stuff on there is complete .... but I wanted to see if it was true or not.

The source in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_S2000

Now apparently the UK is 11.0:1 and the JDM is 11.7:1, now that's a huge difference. Even the Spoon headgasket only raises the compression 0.3 so that would still make it a lot less than the OEM JDM one.

So my question is...does anyone know if this is true, if so I want some concrete evidence. I have been trying to research this for ages and coming up with nothing but if it is true I want one!

AFAIK, it is just the head gasket that is different for the JDM spec engine.

And I wouldn't worry about the 0.7:1 extra - it makes feck all difference

What does AFAIK mean?

I thought it was just the head gasket that was different in JDM engines

Of course 0.7 will make a difference, if wiki is correct them it made 10bhp (on paper)

Why would they be different for different markets? To comply with fuel and/ or emissions regulations differences?

JDM wasn't OBD II compliant.

Was gasket and pistons to make the .7 diff.

If you want to compare pistons, take one out and I've 4 in my bookcase from a JDM.

Makes a LOT of diff, esp when you put 9+ psi through the engine. Not much diff in Horsepower, but a load in pre-detonation.

well i use 99 RON V- Power from shell so it's not far off 100 RON, dout i'm gettin anything like those figures. I'm sure the JDM ECU is mapped slightly different to possibly compensate for the higher octane but I don't imagine it's that different.

If it is correct then power: price, it would be a very effective mod, even for 5bhp. "Every little helps" as a money hungry business says.

I'm getting a Japanese mate of mine to do some research about this aswell so he might come up with some interesting facts
