Default Compression test results

Done a compression test today on the S and got results of just under 200 on each cylinder something like 190,195,196,190 however I've realised after reading a bit on here that you are supposed to hold the throttle pedal down while cranking the engine, which I didn't - does this make my results void or do you still think its ok?

I was suspecting a HG failure that's the reason for the test and all cylinders have come back consistent so I'm guessing and hoping I am fine.

Cheers for taking the time to read this and please share comment.

To be fair compression test results are more about consistency. Yours are so nothing wrong there, if they were all abnormally low or high then there is an issue. What difference does it make if you hold the throttle open?

You are compressing air in the cylinder.

Im not sure about the procedure but you should probably re do it. Also you might still have a HG gone but it might not show on a compression test if its the wrong side....

A sniffer test is more reliable for HG failure.

Numbers sound good to me mate. As said its consistency that matters. I had one S with consistent 185-190 on each cylinder and one, with a lower mileage engine cranking at 215 on three cylinders and 190 on one cylinder.

The 185 engine is still going strong and has been around the Nurburgring plenty of times (its now Dixon's track car). The bottom end went on the other one.....

This may be pure chance but from now on I'd definitely go with consistency over the number.
