Concerned Engine Noise
A couple months ago I had the car in Honda to get the TCT replaced. While doing the work, they managed to crack the chain case cover.
So took the car back and got a new cover put on.
Now there is a new noise coming from the engine bay and it sounds like it's from the pullys where the belt is. It's definatly not the TCT.
I tried the long screwdriver-to-the-ear trick and it sounds like it's comming from one of the pullys.
Anyone had any experience of this or know what it might be?
Is it expensive to replace the pullys?

Does the noise rise and fall with engine revs?
You could release the belt tension and see if there is any play in the pulley (pull it back and forth)
There is a bearing in the pulley but it's rare it would fail.
If it is that, it won't be an expensive fix (just a ****er to release the pulley nut!)
But it might be best to pass it back to Honda if oyu are unsure.

The noise is most pronounced at idle, higher revs tend to drown it out.
Not sure how to realease the belt tension... But it's definately coming form the belt area.
It's going into Honda on Monday.

I have a brand new belt tensioner in the garage.
That's my comment.
Slip the belt off and run the engine, blip the throttle etc and see if the noise is still there.
Make sure aircon etc are switched off and dont drive the car without the belt though.
My fault turned out to be the aircon, hence why I've still got a new tensioner in the garage.

Is it easy to take the belt off?
If it's just the bearing that's gone in the belt tensioner, could I get away with changing part 5 in diagram below? The bearing is only

I would just get a bearing.
Take a look at the belt for cracks and replace if required.
Also have a spin of the alternator pully too.
The end bearings often also get noisy with age too.
Also same goes for water pump bearings.
Belt off is too easy.
Spanner on the end of that tensioner pully centre nut and push down anti-clockwise against the spring.
Pop the belt off with other hand.
Quicker bearing sales from someone local like MECRO?
