Default Condensation in headlights

I've condensation in my n/s front headlamp for a couple of weeks now, - you'd think this weather would have cleared some of it out, - I haven't driven with the lights on for a while though.

I've found this little guide on how to sort it out, - it looks like a proper mission?!

http://ricks2k.com/info/instructions/diffuser.pdf

Whenever i've attempted to do stuff in the past i've often made things worse and had to call in an expert!

Has this happened to you? What did you, take off bumper and reseal, or buy a new headlamp case!?

It hasnt happened to mine yet, but i did read a thread before that it does work.

If you are bored and has the time, go ahead and do it, otherwise go and enjoy the sun while it last.

i have had this for a while, if i take the rubber off the back it goes away and as the car doesn't get used so much in the wet it's not an issue.

taking the bumper off is a pita (i have done it before when i fixed the horn)

it's actually passed it's MOT with condensation in (but it was wet)

When I got my S about 2 years ago I had condensation in the offside headlight and I read all the info about taking the light apart.

What you don't want to do is totally seal up the unit, it needs to breath otherwise when it gets colder you will get condensation again.

Here is how I cleared it - from memory .....

Took out the headlight bulb at the back of the light fitting and fed a tube in, connected the other end to a hair dryer and blew warm air in, took about an afternoon of patience to clear it but it has been fine since.

The only caviat is that the car is garaged and doesn't see much wet weather!

Nice one thanks. That certainly seems like an easier option to try first before entirely removing the front bumper, - if it doesnt work for me (mine isnt garaged) - I'll consider the bumper removal (if i'm feeling brave).

Thanks

I need to do mine too. My headlights are steamed up pretty badly. Never fully read the destructions on how to do it.
The bumper isn't too bad to remove, IMO, but I'm probably just saying that because I really didn't have a choice but to do it.

Can anyone confirm that the instructions above will be applicable to a 2004 (as the car shown is a 2000-2003) ?

Pretty sure it's the same, as you can retro-fit a new bumper onto a pre-03 model.
