Default Coolant?

Evening all,

just wondered what coolant I should put in?

Honda Coolant?
Best stuff from local garage?

Second question. Should my new engine with 500miles on the clock be low on coolant at this stage? Would a new engine need topping up so soon? I did notice when picking the S up after having it's new engine fitted that the level was between the Min and Max but was below halfway.

Going to call the garage first thing in the morning anyway not that I'm paranoid after my last mishap!

If you're just topping up a little, just use distilled water. You're not going to dilute the coolant to any signifcant amount with a little top up.

That said, with 500 miles on the clock after an engine change, I'd suspect there's a minor leak somewhere. I wouldn't expect to have to add anything.

If you went for a drive approx 50 miles, came back, checked coolant level and checked again 2 days later should it have gone down? Engine was still hot on first check.

Thanks.

I think they must have not filled it up correctly. They should have refilled the coolant and allowed the fan to go through two cycles.

Blitzspeed : I reckon that the hot test was a false reading as it will have expanded.

On the 500 mile issue it could have been an airlock. Mine also dropped a bit when the garage replaced mine and they gave me the bit that has left over to top up if required. After about a week or two I checked it again and it had dropped a little topped it up and it hasn't moved since.

Sorry to start the paranoia off for us Lower!

Thanks for the advice as usual guys!

My oil level hasn't budged from Max yet. What Oil are you topping up with Lower?

You need to compare with the engine cold.

It could be an airlock, but that'd be very sloppy work - the cooling system on a UK S is very easy to bleed.
