Corrosion
Much against my better (financial) judgement, I have decided to keep the S, and not trade it in as I usually do with my cars. She is now three years old (MOT due this week!), and I normally trade in after two years, so I figured that as I hadn't done anything about it for a year, I actually didn't want to let her go.
My question (now that I am resigned to keeping her probably until she falls apart on the drive in 20 years time ) is -
Has anybody with older cars / more milage seen any areas of corrosion to watch out for / prevent? So far I haven't seen any problems, but it's only done 11k miles. Anything I should know?
Thanks peeps.

Suspension I think, there was some thread a while back about getting the suspension greased up otherwise its difficult to get it adjusted later in the cars life. AB did something around that, not that his car goes out much.

Thanks. I'll get it up on a high kerb & look underneath at the suspension & wheel arches. What bits need greasing (& what should I grease it with). I confess I'm a numpty at this sort of thing
I also had some rust specs under the bonnet, but it was on loose bits of metal dust resting on top of the paintwork.
Interesting about the boot stops. I'll take a closer look.
Thanks again!

You won't be able to grease it, it is inside the joints and invloved dismantling. Its a major job and most people dont bother. I'll fish around and see if I can find the thread.

If I have to get out the socket set, I don't think I'll bother.

I get the alignement done every year to make sure the alignement bolts are loosened, moved and re tightened to help prevent them corroding stuck in one postion.
Jo - is right about the boot stops as they screw in to the rear edge of the boot.
The galv cover on the master brake cylinder suffers from salt too.
The large black screws that hold the front bumper stiiffner (just under the front eddge of the bonnet) corrode and alos can cause the strip to corrode as well!
Alloys on early cars!
Discs if you don't drive it
