Default Could someone do a simple test please

Hi, I am needing some info on the temperature gauge readings if someone could help?

The info required is relating to cars 1999 to 2004

I want to know the timed sequence between each of the segments lighting up from cold.

So from your engine cold, ignition on there should be 1 segment of the dash coolant gauge lit, I then want to know how long it takes for the 2nd segment to light up and then the 3rd segment after that.

I would like this test to be done on a vehicle moving off from when started and not just stationary and left ticking over.

I know there are more segments (6 in total) but the interest is in the first 3.

Many thanks.

Won't give you a conclusive answer mate, because the engine warms at a different rate due to ambient temperatures. For instance a car in Canada in Winter could be started, driven off at the same RPM's, changed into the same gears for the same amount of time, and it would a different result to a car in Abu Dhabi in Summer.

That make sense?

That's all before you even consider degradation of the coolant and cooling system etc.

What do you think your problem is?

I knew someone would say that! - yes I'm aware of all that you said thanks, its just an average I'm after at UK temperatures akin to now.

I've no problem its just an excercise I'm doing.

My car is slightly different but it's roughly two mins between each segment.

3-4 mins for the first one then 1-2 after that for the 3rd at a guess

Same as above. Usually several minutes for the second segment, then the third shortly follows after. Maybe 4-6 minutes for a full warm up when rolling.

Thank you to 'all' that responded - thats just the info I wanted.

Needed to compare how quickly the dash temp gauge ramps up with the std ECU Vrs the AEM V2 ECU given similar conditions.
