I'm not too worried about winter approaching as think we had snow twice this last year and what with global warming, Sheffield will soon be 70 degrees in the winter and next to the sea!!
I actually think the last 2-3 months is worst weather for my S as too many trees near my car park at home and tree sap is the worst! Mind you, since claybarring it using Tangomans tips, a quick wash and chamois keeps it looking mint.. They are defo there for driving though... Think a cover would just be hassle..
