Default Cracked windscreen!

OK, so the car is less than 2 weeks old.
I've done 1100 miles already, but not really much in the way of VTECing.
NO accidents, mishaps, or anything.
Was having dinner tonight at a local pub, sat at a table from where we could easily see the car.
Came back to the car to find a linear crack, about 20-25 cm, in the lower, right hand side (driver's) of the windscreen, extending to the edge of the glass, right up to the frame of the windscreen.
This MUST have happened while we were having dinner, as there is NO WAY we wouldn't have noticed it.
There is absolutely no spidering or any evidence of the glass having been struck from the outside.

Does this represent a flaw with the glass?
Is it something I can get a Honda dealer to replace?

Cheers,

San.

Thats really unlucky

There will be no chance of the dealer replacing the windscreen as you cannot prove how the damage was caused.

Do you think you could have had a slight crack and not noticed? I knwo thats pretty hard to imagine! I had a crack ina windscreen years ago and the heating and cooling of the windscreen caused a tiny little crack to become about 10 inches long!

What a bummer

Not much chance of the dealer changing it under warranty

Got a chip in my screen (fixed for free) on the 3rd day of ownership - original screen still going strong !!!

Insurance will cover it for approx

Check with your insurance company whether they offer free repairs to windscreens - Elephant offer this service. However, from your description it seems unlikely your windscreen is repairable.

Hi San,

If there is no external damage it's got to be worth having a go at the dealer, could be a stress crack.

Be sick if it happened to me. Go for it, best of luck.

Cheers Kev

My car recently developed an annoying rattle around the passenger airbag whenever it went over bumps so I took it to Brighton Honda for them to sort out.

They sent me out with a mechanic to identify the sound and after a couple of minutes he pointed out that there was a penny stuck where the VIN is located on the front left of the windscreen. He then proceeded to tell me that there was no way of removing it (thereby stopping the rattle) other than taking out the dash!!!! or removing the windscreen!!!!

'fortunately' I noticed that there was a rather big stone chip right where the mirror is stuck on and so got Autoglass to replace the screen through my insurance.

....Cost me

Good story S200OAT.

San,
I would definitely go back to the dealer and complain till I was blue. Regardless of warranty this could be claimed as a manufacturing flaw. You could claim you spotted it almost immediately but just had the chance to take it back.

A friend of mine noticed a crack in the windscreen of his boxster a few days after he took delivery. It was replaced at the dealer with no questions. I'm sure this is not specific to Porsche dealers.

Unfortunately the topic of windscreens is quite common. I'm on my second and have already developed another mystery crack.

Do a search for windcreens and butter. ( are our windscreens made of butter? )

Usually you have to pay the

I picked up my car new last June. I had the windscreen replaced in about November (there was the tiniest evidence of impact at the start of the crack) - so I paid my
