CTR to S2000 to CTR
what do you's make of this post from "Taz" on the CTR forum?
Today I have just traded in my 04 S2000 for a new CTR. I got a black one with aircon. Picking it up later in the month.
I know I've seen several posts on these forums with people asking about changing a CTR to an S2000 and personally I would now say don't do it! Keep the CTR!
The S2000 was fun for a year but I so missed my old CTR. It's much more fun to drive and much more practical.
Interestingly see the dealer told me today that most of the S2000's they have for sale 2nd hand have the same amount of previous owners as years old that they are. People tend to keep them for a year and sell them on. Like me they think it's an awesome car until they have to live with one properly. Then they realise that the CTR was actually a better car to own.
Anyway I've made up for my mistake now and the new CTR is on it's way. W00t! As part of this deal I have now managed to clear all my outstanding finance too so this car I will own properly outright. It's a nice feeling.
Hope to see some of you at the next south-west meet so I can sing the praises of the CTR again unlike last time where I turned up in me S!

Speaking as someone who went from CTR to S2000, I would say the S2000 is the better "drivers" car by far, but the CTR is certainly more practical both in terms of space, etc. It was also far more "chuckable" around corners.
Taz's old CTR was pretty visually modded (neons, Morettes, big alloys, etc) and in my limited experience there is a lot less you can do on S2000s in terms of modding, and what you can do usually costs more (especially if you forfeit chav rims like Evo5s and Kahns and get proper Jap ones)
Maybe that played a big part in it.

Having driven thge CTR a couple of times I was impressed by the seats, gear change (not better than the S2000's though) and its general "get up and go" but the steering feedback and poor traction in wet conditions reallly were a turn off. I understand that a change of tyres can improve traction but as for the steering....
All comes down to personal preference / expectations and needs.
I have had my S2000 over 4 years now and find it a joy to live with (my previous cars were Civic VTEC /Civic VTi / Prelude 2.2 VTEC) and, perhaps fortunately for me, it is as practical as I need a car to be - it starts, gets from A to B, and is relatively economical to run (for a 150mph 2 seater roadster
).
Whilst I found adapting to RWD a challenge, once you do get the hang of it (I am not pretending to be an expert, but it doesnt frighten me anymore!) it is so much more satisfying than FWD - for me a move back to FWD would be a significant step back in terms of my motering enjoyment.

You could broaden that reasoning to any 2 seater sportscars.
Many people aspire to one, and when some get there, they find its a compromise (or they bought it at the wrong time). 2 seater convertibles generally have a higher number of owners for that reason.

Once you've been bitten (not in that way) by RWD, it's hard to consider FWD again IMO

It was THE major factor in choosing a replacement for the S2000 and one which made things pretty difficult for the money.
making the move from a 4 seater to any 2 seater requires a large adjustment to what you can expect from the car. cc's comments about the practicality of the s2000 on a previous thread mirror what this taz character is saying in a lot of ways. i've had 2 seaters for over 6 years and are well used to the limitations and plan to only own 2 seaters for the forseeable future, but practicality has meant that we sold my girlfriends mx5 at the weekend and it will be replaced by something with 4 seats.
incidentily, i would imagine the price of s2000's should be going up significantly at present. we failed to sell the mx5 in september last year, but the same 14 year old car advertised last week on the autotrader site at the same price has generated loads of interest and it hasn't even been in the magazine yet. we sold it to the first people that came to view it. should have asked more money for it but
