Default Current trade in values

I just went to my local dealer to get a trade in price on the S2000 and I was expecting a poor value but didnt quite realise how bad.

Checked What Car valuation and it came out at around £11k on trade in. My car has a few scratches, new rear tyres, just been serviced etc. They offered me £9000, I thought I would ask for a better price and they came back and said that the Honda dealer in their group would only pay £8500!

I know im not going to get £11k but I really didnt expect that! Might as well hold onto the car for the moment I think, or maybe half-heartedly put it up for private sale.

Is this the dealer trying it on or is it typical in other owners experience?

Stump up for membership and sell it on here.

You may very well get your asking price.

£11K for an 05 should be snapped up.

Condition, mileage etc???

47k on the clock. Slight scratches on the rear and a small hole in the soft top. The dealer didnt notice the hole which is even more annoying considering the price! Alloys are a little scraped up thanks to the previous owner (but nothing you wouldnt expect with a 4/5 year old car).

Anyway I think im going to just give it some TLC and keep running it for the moment. I presume it can only lose another 4k or so before it hits a floor in the price anyway?

you'll rarely get a good deal trading in. I was offered 4200 for my 3-series, i sold it privately the following week, the morning I advertised it for sale, for nearly 7k.

The low trade-in price doesn't necessarily represent the value of the car but probably the dealer's reluctance to take on a part-ex, what he's selling to you (you need to look at the whole package, not just the trade-in price) and how reckons it will make for him.

I'd agree - sell privately to find out what its worth on the open market, but wait until the weather picks up.

This is beginning to look a bit like a "For Sale" Thread, particularly with the details being asked for, so I'm closing it, especially as the question has now been answered.
