Valuations Again
Just to point out my car isnt for sale - the last post on this subject was locked because the mods thought it was a sly For Sale post!
Anyway,
Further to my post the other day about the poor trade in value that was quoted to me by my local dealer I decided to check a couple of the valuation sites against each other. There seems to be quite a large difference.
What Car lists the trade in price on my 05 S2000 Roadster (47k on the clock) as over £11k. Glass's guide (the one the dealer told me they use has it ranging from as little as £8451(!) to about £10.5k. A couple of the other free valuation sites give around £11k.
Glass's seems to be the valuation used widely in the trade which makes me wonder (cynically) why the fairly large difference? Is anyone in the trade that can shed any light on this?
Im still a little annoyed at the poor price quoted by the dealer so im probably just having a moan! No chance I would be selling at that price considering depreciation can only be about 1k per year from here on in.

The trade uses the CAP black book. http://www.cap.co.uk/Support/PriceQueryLin...49/Default.aspx
Trouble is, there are so many variables, any of these will only give you a guide to what a particular car is worth.

I'm not sure any of the guides are much use tbh
I just look at what the market is saying
A couple of weeks and you will soon see what a car of your age, spec and mileage sells for - or doesn't

^what he said. Guides are just that - a guide and they're mainly used by the trade to fleece those looking for a trade in or whatever. What you will actually get depends on what a buyer is prepared to pay.
This is a good example in good nick. It may have been advertised on here at a higher price, I'm not sure, but the price seems keen

It has, see here https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=750917
I suspect it may have to go lower still to sell in the current market. That's not detracting from the car which appears to be a nicely kept clean example.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have since decided for certain that im going to keep this car till I get old. Will run it for the next couple of years day-to-day until it starts needing more TLC, will then garage it and only use on sunny days. I have a neighbour who has had the same sportscar for the last 40 or so years and I think there is something nice about keeping my first 'proper' car. Who knows, maybe it will become a classic.
