Default to declare or not declare, that is the question

i know this might be a silly thing to ask but has everyone on this forum declared everything that they have modded to their insurers?

A friend of mine had an accident a few days ago and his car was moded but not all was declared...

I mean even if you declare your mods with value, will the insurers replace part for part?

Irrelevant of all that, if you don't tell them they may use it as a reason not to pay out at all

yeah u see my sister had the same thing on her vti , with a load of mods that were done but weren't declared. She claimed she was unaware of them when she bought the car.

The insurers paid out luckily.

Say if you had a written off crash though... if you removed the mods and put OEM back they would look different wouldn't they...such as missing dents and scratches?? or am i thinking too deep?

Depends on your mods.

My friend didnt declare his wheels, piled into the side of someone and the insurance hiked his excess cos of undeclared mods.

so you still haven't declared all of your mods???

i've only got a spoon filter in mine so far...will be getting the cf air duct sometime next week from spoon sports europe

i really want to get an exhaust done...but the thought of having to declare it and whack on a few hundred to gain 2-3 bhp ain't exactly worth it.

Noone does the exhaust for power, weight saving or noise is the only reason I can think of and no I haven't but I'm going to today because I feel like a tool for not. In saying that I'm hardly Fast and Furious on the mod side of things .

Be hard to change your mods over if your in hospital following a serious crash.

IMO aint worth it, bite the bullet and pay the premium.

I declared my air intake and it made no odds to the premium at all. Not worth the stress imo; if you're in an accident with a fatality etc. they will crawl all over the car
