Default Differential - how much?

Hi all,

I recently stuck the standard exhaust on my car as I have a 600mile drive with the missus and the J's Racing 60RS single wasn't really suitable

However the whirring that has been noticeable whilst crusing is now much more obvious, and I haven't really been able to tell what it is. I can now hear a groaning noise from the rear though when pulling out of tight junctions so I am thinking maybe it is the differential. I have suspicious a seized caliper in the past started off the noise which has got worse over time.

How much does these normally cost from a breakers? I assume other than stuck bolts they are pretty easy to change?

For info I have changed the rear left hub as I thought this was the cause of the whirring noise, but this didn't help.

Thanks

My diff groans when pulling out of junctions, I didn't really see it as much of an issue.

Yeah mine also whirres like mad in a straight line too though.

The groaning may be unrelated but I was hoping it was the diff as otherwise I would be guessing it was the gearbox

Really audible whirring? Like transmission whine?

I have a slight drone when travelling in a straight line but I think that's just the tyres.

Mine is more akin to a singing kettle.

Second one's doing it too now. I replaced the ICE with a louder one instead!

Nah its not whine, its the noise of a bearing worn somewhere. Sounds pitted.

I get a groan from my rear too, but it only happens if I've just used the brakes to stop...

It sounds you have the same issue as i have. i had a whine in march that sounded like it's from the Diff. now there is a bearing sound that started and now it's really bad. It's coming from the Transmission tunnel.

I have a friend that is a Honda technician that's reckons it's the gearbox bearings. He cant be sure if the diff is sound resonating from the gearbox or the diff making the noise. Anyway as the my car done 84k now i might as well change the clutch while i got the gearbox off.
