Discs and Pads

But I have also heard that with the EBC dimpled and grooved discs there is excessive noise even when not braking
is this true?
is this true?
Everybody suggests Porterfield, but nobody will tell you where to get them. Apparently somebody got some sets off a bloke in a pub a couple of years ago and sold them on here.
I have redstuff, though I'm starting to feel they're not up to serious track use.
I've never heard a bad word said against the Porterfields, could possibly be the way to go.
There was a group buy on them sometime ago I believe.
But as you say where can you buy them from ?!?!?!?!
I've run RedStuff for most of the last 12 months on standard (Brakes International) discs. I've got through 2 sets plus a set of Porterfield R4S, with 2-3 track-days being the limit on either make.
I've just fitted some new discs, because the old ones were scored and cracked after a year. I put this down to the cheap discs, although having decided to buy some EBC blanks this time, as one step up, I was disappointed to find that they were visually indistinguishable in every way from the Brakes Int kit, apart from price and the box they came in.
I found the Porterfield pads had a more consistent feel on the road, but tended to fade a little towards the end of a track session. I haven't had the RedStuff fade noticeably, but then they may be trashing the discs. The Porterfields seemed to dust more once part worn, whereas the RedStuff dusted a lot to start with, but a lot less after the first track-day.
RedStuff have the advantage of being low cost, pretty effective (in my experience) and easily available. Although you may have to factor in changing discs more frequently!
I'm still on Reds, but on the look-out for something that might be kinder to the discs.
Is there any issue with running non- ECE-R90 approved pads on the road? If so, then that seriously limits the choice to... RedStuff or Pagid (fronts only
) ... well that's all I can find.
