DIY Vinyl wrap
I got some matte white vinyl wrap 6 months back after i was sick and tired of all issues with people keying my car. I had some time off work and so decided to do it myself as i wasnt interested giving someone £600 to do it for me. I thought to myself it couldnt be that difficult. Unfortunately i was very wrong. It turned out to be a pig of a job. Very frustrating indeed. I needed to change the wing as someone tried stealing my wheels and jacked the car on the wing denting all underneath so it broke away from the chassis and i didnt wanna fork out to get it sprayed. While i had the car stripped i also installed my amp cable properly and a couple of other bits and bobs. i cut out the vents on the front bumper and got some mesh sprayed black in the front bumper along with the main gront grill. All in all it took a week to do. the cold weather wasn't a big help but i think it turned out very well for a 1st attempt. i will probably do it again as i so not like forking out for resprays.

The initial wrap must of took 20 hours inc prep work and trimmings. I really do like the finish of the matte white. looks a lot nicer and not as bold as the black matte ive seen around recently.

I bought 15 meters. I got it from MDP supplies. A car wrapping place in london told me thats where they get their vinyl from and they sell it with a 5 year warranty so its got to be good quality. it cost me £135 for the vinyl and about £20 in equipment ie: squidgees, knifes etc
Good work mate! Looks pretty good. I've been toying with the idea of doing this to mine but, like you, was a reluctant to shell out nearly £900 that I got quoted for something I hadn't seen in the flesh.
When you say 20 hours prep work, what exactly does that intail...? Do you have to prep the paint in any way or just make sure its nice and clean? And how did you apply the vinyl - lubricant, heat gun etc?
Thanks

very good job. i used to do vinyl fitting (company logos) and sometimes it can be a royal PITA. just cant help but get creases in it. i suspect that was down to the vinyl itself though - the thicker stuff went on alot easier than the thinner ones.
how did you find the vinyl on the more complex panels? - front wing for example; you've got many angles which would twist the vinyl out of it's natural flat shape.
for £600 fitted, thats a tempting price compared to a quick blow-over spray.
