Default Do I need a staggered set up on new wheels?

I've read a few threads about rims and tyres which have inspired me to move up to some 17" alloys from the 16" oems. I quite like the Kei racing Ebisu alloys at Wheel Base but they come in a 7.5J width.
Will this be a problem if I have then all round on an otherwise stock car? Will the handling be compromised? Sorry, I'm a newbie to this stuff.
Thanks for any assistance, I'm learning a lot on this forum (particularly about how easy it is to spin in the wet - had to reverse into B&Q red faced after spinning on a roundabout!)

Adding more tyre at the front will make the balance of the car even more tail happy, so it's probably not a good idea for now.

Thanks for the speedy response! Can I assume that stock 17" are different widths also? what would be the best way to size up then? Any comments welcome...

Standard fitment is staggered and it's pretty tricky to find wheels with the correct offsets to fit properly. Others here have far more idea about this than I do, so I'll leave the details to them.

This thread on the US side may be of help though: https://www.s2ki.com/...-fitment-guide/

You can run non-staggered although those that do are generally those who race the car in some way and make lots of other modifications to take this into account.

I'd suggest that for a road car with a novice driver, keeping staggered would be a good idea...

What about same width wheels with different width tyres? eg 215-225 up front and 245 rears?

Fair point as I'm still getting used to the car.
Thanks for the link, exactly the info I was after!
