LOL... 20 kg don't forget, for the hardtop. Plaito was definitely the most committed of the two drivers, he was out to win, he very nearly lost it, being completely sideways on that last corner. The other driver actually said to Plaitow " I could have had you there, but I didn't" and Plaito acknowledged that! The other driver wasn't as committed ,and assuming he was on SO2s ploughing through that much water I don't blame him, he had a couple of hairy corners early on!

Honda's day though, without a doubt and I enjoyed it despite the inevitable lack of product knowledge from motoring 'professionals'

Oh yes.....the serious bit .

Now all things are relative, and we are talking (why not by a Camaro instead of a Boxter) Drivel here......however - I thought tonights program was a little more objective than usual (no more points out of 20, just a simple 1-2-3 ranking helps!

It was suprisiing that the CTR beat the S2000 - maybe it was a little stages - I dont know. It really doesnt bother me - they are both fine cars, and Jason was certainly trying quite hard out of the last corner! A dry track may have benefited the S2000, but what the heck.

I'd like to see the drivers swap cars and see what would have happened in the dry.
As for the comment that all the S2000 wants to do is oversteer, oversteer, oversteer... Boll*cks!
I find that if you are progressive with the steering at speed it will wash out nicely (although on balance the car is more prone to oversteer - it's true ).
Anyway it was a good result for Honda. I can honestly believe that the CTR is practically as quick as a new (tight) S2000 even though Driven had to make some rather bad cuts to make the CTR win.

The Type-R's engine is pretty special - it has a flatter torque curve and it shows. The peaky nature of the S2000's engine meant that on the slower corners 2nd gear was the only option in the S and coupled with lots of sideways moments - something I can say I have experience of!

Wonder if I-VTEC will ever come to the S2000?

My own conclusions :

1) The CTR is a fantastic car - it deserved to beat the hatchback competition.
2) The S2000 was used rather shamefully as a "prop" to achieve a staged result and give a false impression.

The "only 20 hp more" was clear evidence of this - they, of all people, have access to the figures.
I suspect the "traction control" comment was too. I don't have the car yet to confirm but most posters can't find their traction control !
Clearly this was deliberately staged.

If that guy gets confused between the radio controls and traction control then I dont have much faith in his driving!!!

Keith
I thought it strange that he turned it off because it was wet. Surely if you had traction control, you would want to switch it on in those conditions?

I think that he left it off, because he couldn't find the button to switch it on

It was a fun review although the result was definitely staged (the s2k was powering past the civic on the straight, scene gets cut and Jason remains in the lead).
Looked like Jason was enjoying himself though

I thought that if the tyres were SO2 and in the wet clearly the Civic would have a good chance if on more normal rubber .

I do believe the comment re traction control and wet weather was perhaps a bit tongue in cheek !!

But as always drivel , but the doughnuts around the Mr Blobby caracter were quite interesting , shame they did'nt go horribly wrong !!!

Could this be some very clever marketing by Honda? It's interesting that Honda offer performance driver training to buyers of the CTR but not the S2000. I wonder if the marketing message from Honda is to talk up the relative performance of the CTR, great if it increases sales. I just wonder what the message is to S2000 owners?

Realistically, if that was a race then they would have ended in a heap Does anyone remember the debacle of the Minardi two seater race? They all fell over each over on the last lap, when they realized that they were in the wrong order. The end result was Mansell going airborne with his passenger! The result was declared on the prevous lap, so that the right person won!
