Don't know if everyone saw this on the news last night. link to BBC

Basically a driver received a penalty notice stating that he had done 51mph in a 30mph zone.
He requested the photos and calculated that he had in fact been travelling at 13.2mph.

The scamera partnership concerned said "the error was due to the camera's radar being triggered by a reflected image".

Glad he managed to expose the error/scam?, just hope I never have to drive behind him in a 30mph zone....13.2mph

edit: I can spell camera really

Yeah - saw this on the news last night. I wonder just how many more of these cases there have been.

I bet plod do absolutely nothing about it though but lets hope more and more people request photographs and foul up the system at least a bit.

I read in the local rag (Burnley) that nearly half of the fixed speed cameras in E. Lancs (50+ out of 120ish) are illegally sited, as they do not meet the requirements for numbers of accidents and/or casualties.

The local campaign group, motorists and MPs have approached the council about this and the council have replied with a "Stuff off, we don't care. Every camera we have installed will stand up to scrutiny (i.e. it's nicked 1 person this year) and we are not removing any of them".

If they are illegally installed, does that mean that it's legal to rip 'em out with a JCB...?

Which begs my question.

Who is responsible for the siting and installation of fixed cameras? The Council, the Government or the Police?

The camera partnership has apologised for the error, saying it was "an extremely rare occurrence and a known radar phenomenon".

Who is the partnership with and if it's a known problem what are they doing to rectify it?

The camera spokesperson just came out with some rubbish about 'any errors have to be placed in the context of overall improvements in lowering speed'.

Bit like the argument for capital punishment - we know we'll kill a few innocents but hey!

I guess the lesson for everyone is how this guy spotted the error and was then able to prove the mistake.

The Dorset Safety Camera partnership are a bunch of unprofessional to$$ers and heavily disliked around these parts.
The local radio station refer to them as the "local photographic society" and warn people of where they are operating.
They do not keep to the guidelines and people are forever phoning in and complaining that they hide the van etc and do not follow established practise. Do they care ? Of course not. They are out to make money, pure and simple.
