Given that whatever gear you're going to, you pass through neutral...why not? There's no way the gearbox "knows" which gear you were in before.

It's not about the bearbox knowing what gear you were in but the fact that the synchros are worked a lot harder when matching gear speeds - there was a huge debate on this very issue in `Under the Hood` and the conclusion was to avoid it as it will bugger the bearbox in the long term.

Feck that, I'm not changing my driving style in case the Gearbox goes 10 years down the line.
Still disagree though. I can understand that logic if you're forcing the gears at high accelerations, but a simple slot from 4th to 6th under low loading ain't gonna put the synchros under any heavier a pressure IMO.

Ask him if he can show you one of these stickers.
And then ask for it in writing pointing out it does not say that in the manual (after checking of course)

Is that not one of the reasons for rev matching between gears

Shouldn't be any problem at all.
Which do you think puts the most wear on the car components:
Accelerating to 60mph in 1st and 2nd, and putting the car into 6th prior to cruising, or
Accelerating to 60mph in 1st and 2nd, and then putting the car into 3rd, then 4th, then 5th, then 6th.

If one pauses in neutral until the speeds match, then skip shifting up the box is no problem.

Skip shifting down the box is not on, unless one is adept at H&T.

The car does great clutchless shifts too!
