Early S2000 audio
Hi
Am I right in thinking that early S2000's had a 2 speaker setup? (which was replaced in later models by 4 speakers). A question for those of you with early cars, have you upgraded the door speakers by adding new 3 ways or has anyone modded their doors to include tweeters?
If you have please let me know what you have used and how it sounds
cheers
Alistair

I have just put Focal speakers (IMO excellent speakers) in my door which didnt need any modification, the tweeters which came with them have been mounted next the the windscreen pillars (but only put down with double-sided-sticky-tape) although these will need to be attached a little better, but the audio shop didnt want to drill holes in my dash. I am running an amp and sub box in the boot, to make up for the lack of rear speakers, and the sound travels through quite well, although it is quite a powerfull system.

From the 02 model onwards there was still a 2 speaker setup but the tweeters were mounted seperately on the doors.
You can replace the existing front speakers with 3 way but to may wish to look at going for the Lucid solution which allows you to install a second set of speakers behind the seats.

I am intend to fit rears and a sub in the boot, but am debating whether to replace the door speakers with
3 ways or fit 2 ways and door mounted tweeters in keeping with the later vehicles. What do you reckon?
Going to get it sorted in one hit along with new CAT1 alarm and remote locking
cheers

MY1999-MY2001 have 2-way speakers in the doors.
MY2002 have 2-way components (seperate tweeter+bass cone)in the doors.
I removed the old 2 ways and replaced with a component system with the tweeter mounted up higher.
Added rear speakers in the panels and a 4-channel amp to power all four speakers.
On top of that is a sub and a bridged two-channel amp to increase the bass.
The sub in the boot will not help the "no rear sound" problem, as low frequency bass in non-directional anyway.
Infact it may make it worse as the bass may not sit well with only two speakers - you should definitely get rears.
BTW, subwoofer bass levels can cause the interior roof well to rattle if the roof is up, and there is little that can be done to stop it - other than putting the roof down!!

In the end i just knocked up a normal box with the correct 1 c.litre internal dimensions and sized it so the amp fitted on the back.
Removed the crap spare wheel for the 4 channel which still tucks away nicely and voila:
Just have not had time or the space to get round to making a flush box that also incorporates the 2nd amp. Good thing is, currently i can remove the box and the boot is back to normal in seconds.
