Default Engine buzzing

Hi folks,

Driving home tonight I noticed an odd buzzing noise from the engine.
It buzzes at about 5000 rpm, any less it goes away, anymore and it goes away.
It does this in any gear [I havent tried reverse] or even in neutral when stationary.

Car was only serviced last week.

Anyone have any ideas on what it might be and if its remotely serious please ? Engines are scary places to me.

Many Thanks :-)

Most likely to be a heatshield. Could be the black one by the exhaust manifold, the top one on the exhaust manifold, the two lower ones on the exhaust manifold, the ones on the cat, or the one between the cat and the body.

and just a thought - did the car do this before the service?
It's not unknown for tools to get left behind under the bonnet. Worth a look.

Many thanks Brian, heatshields sound relatively cheap [I hope] I did a search and only found things about Transmission buzzes which sounds much pricier but they mentioned a clutch recall which I think my car is too new for?
I also guess that its safe to keep driving with this problem for me and the rest of the engine, although I will get it sorted asap.
Thanks again, Richard.

Good thinking P1, I did look at the engine, found and removed a very odd silver yoghurt pot looking piece of tin foil stuck slightly on top of the battery but the light was poor so Ill check again later.

I think Brian meant the heatshield is vibrating.
I get this from one of manifold heatshields every now and then since I put the Ricks manifold on.

Ah I thought that - so assumed it might need replacing or tightening or bending or something ??? You see theres a good reason I dont mix well with engines, Im so clueless. If theres anyone I would be concerned about meddling under the bonnet its me! But I will sleep a little better knowing its not likely to be a new engine jobby.

Thank you!

You can sometimes find the exhaust does this as well. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust on the car?
