Default Engine flushes & fuel additives

Ok, booked the car in for its second service today at nearly 2 years 5 months since new. I thought I'd leave it this long since it's only done 14.5K anyway - just hoping the dealer doesn't take issue with this time delay
As far as I can see, the only thing they actually do (not including checks) is change the oil and filter, so I can't see why 5 months should really make any difference.

Anyway, the point of the post is that the girl on the end of the phone offered me 2 extra options which I'm unsure about - an engine flush for

More worrying, are you sure the warranty is still valid as the advice is to service every 9,000 miles OR 12 months, whichever is sooner.

personally I wouldnt bother with any of the "extras" they are offering on a 14k car.

I think you have blown your warranty for any engine based claims though

warranty will be void, oil starts to break down if its left standing thats why they state milage or time.you will have problems when you come to sell your car imho.

No, I'm not. Just hoping that the last 7 months of warranty are incident-free if that's the case.
I know this may be foolish with hindsight, but the car only covered 3000 miles in the second year (I know... I don't intend this to happen again) so I guess my thinking at the time was that I wasn't ready to part with nearly

Al
I wouldn't bother with the extras either.
There is always a residue of oil in the engine after it's drained, no matter how small, and I wouldn't want any percentage of flushing oil in there mixed with my engine oil after a refill.
I don't subscribe to any claims made by fuel additive manufacturers either. Just avoid cheap petrol and all will be fine
When are we going to see that shiny blue car of yours on a meet again?

P.S. I would add that these extras have never been offered to me at service time (last one Dec. '06).
Just an extra way to extract money from you IMO.

There's a good thread on the use of fuel additives here. I'm considering buying some Redline SI-1 or 2 for mine after reading through this...

Thanks for replies to date, and hi Gary, hope all is well.
Determined to get to the Megameet this year (and double my annual mileage!), but we'll see - MM1 seems so long ago. Not much seems to go on in this department around the Oxon area
Regarding the mileage, this year has definitely been a one-off!! (Excuses - house-buying, getting married in Sardinia, so generally needing to save pennies and not having any spare time).

I take your points about the warranty.....it confirmed my suspicions. I have been a bit naive and foolish.

(Side note to any possible future owners, and to help ease my conscience - oil was changed at 4500 with mineral plus Honda's running-in additive, then at 9k at end of Sept '05 with Redline, which is claimed to last longer between changes. I wouldn't have thought 4 months overdue should cause a problem.)

I agree about the oil flusher - no point at this mileage.
As for the fuel additive, thanks for the link s2ook - interesting reading.
I agree about the Redline. I think I'll ask them what additive they use, and make the decision then (probably Wynns, Carplan or some other readily-available from the shops for a fiver).
