engine knocking noise PLEASE HELP!
If as you say you check your oil weekly and still had to put 800ml in to get the light to go out, there must be a good few litres of it somewhere. That's not oil useage unless its smoking like a number 7 bus so it'll be leaking out somewhere and at a fair old rate by the sounds of it. Far more than would come from a poorly fitted rocker cover gasket for example. Oil filter spun loose perhaps?
Who changed the oil and when? If it was Chris Neil's and you have dumped oil somewhere you may have some come back perhaps.
I know this is not the news you were hoping for but second hand engines for the S2000 go for between £1800 to £2500 plus fitting. It may be fixable but I wouldn't hold out much hope for that if I'm being honest.

On another note, I've known something as little as a failed thermostat to cause big end failure so don't beat yourself up too much, you'd be amazed at what warranty companies will pay out for, as it comes down to the opinion of the inspector they send out on the day, so get on the blower and plead ignorant!

it has been running perfect even after rocker cover refitted!
it came on on friday and i put oil (from cold) straight away in to it and it came up to the correect reading on the dipstick (i checked it 4 times) always checked it weekly as i love cars and want to maintain it properly!!!!
then i went out on saturday in it and the light wasnt on.. then it would come on some times in that journey on saturday and would only come on at idle (pulled up at lights or junction) but again as soon as i would head off it would go out! sometimes at the next juntion or lights it wouldnt come on at all.
then when i went to my dads and re started the car to go home this noise suddenly burst in to life on start up... i then had to drive the 5 miles to get home at low speed!!!
realy appreciate the fast and honest feedback but for some to say i am lying is not fair as i want to get this problem diagnosed so why wuld i lie and give wrong info when i am asking for your guys help!!!
car sat on drive ready to be collected to be taken away and diagnosed!!! if its a new engine i havent got that type of money so the only other thing would be to sell it damaged!!!!! or claim off insurance (dont know if that can be done) thats getting ahead of myself anyway!!! see what the outcome is first! thanks agin guys really appreciate all your comments! please add some more if the above info is of any help!!! started her up to put on flat bed as they have come to cllect and the oil pressure light came on with the ignition then went out when i started the engine!!! the sound was there but not as loud as i first thought or as loud as some you tube video's!!!! im just so stumped to what it could be..... i just hope its not the sand particles from the sandblasted rocker cover as i will then be stuck between to garages blaming each other!!!!!!! cheers duncan

anyway i just pray that its not as bad as i think and im being told!!!! but probably just being ignorant their!!!!! maybe asking you all where to get cheap egines from lol
How much oil showing on dipstick before you added some?
Wanting to maintain her properly is good. Next time read the handbook first....

Sounds like you lost a big end or two. A metallic knock that rises and falls with revs at idle (off load) is probably big end bearings.
If its more of a deep grinding rumble, its main bearing time.
LAck of oil probably means both.
However you cut it, its new (s/h) engine time. Circa £3k if you cannot do it yourself.
