Default Engine Mounts

A friends Civic Type R. I know honda make bad engine mounts and this is a major fail! Could this happen to the S? I have fitted an engine torque damper, I am hoping this reduces the stress on the mounts!

A bit worrying that that can happen on a sub-50K mile VERY well-maintained car ..... Should we all be fitting engine dampers or doing something else preventative??

Engine torque dampers reduce the movement of the engine, its a performance thing. They affix from the left hand side to just near the vtec solenoid.

In theory transfering the loss from the movement of the engine and directing it, as in theory some is lost when it moves.

But its in-line to begin with, i know the vtec lumps moves but not a great deal.

However when i fitted mine, i noticed the gear shift was slightly smoother and maybe a placebo but a more direct feel to the drive (ie when planting you foot down on first instance).

They also could reduce stress on the existing mounts, fitting this alone wouldnt save you as the mounts are underneath, but i cant say this for sure its just IMO.

I think that the fact that Hypersonik has the only known incidence of failed engine mounts on this board that i can remember and the fact that despite it having failed it not causing any significant problems means that its not something that's a major problem with the S2k.

Engine mounts on FWD cars are under a lot more strain than RWD.

But as it hasn't caused anyone any problems its not a major issue anyway.

As i said in my previous post, FWD engine mounts are under a lot more load.
