Engine Mounts
The reason it never caused problems is because of the failsafe design of the mount.
It stands to reason that Honda KNOW that the failing mount is an issue because I haven't seen anything quite like it on other Hondas despite their awful mount construction - anyone with an EG/EK/DC2 will know about the torque mounts disintegrating.
I haven't closely inspected EP mounts, but it stands to reason that they'd have a similar failsafe design.
I believe, in the case of the OP, that this too has failed.
ATEOTD, it is pretty easy to check the status of your engine mount so I would urge people, especially with older cars, to check
