Default Engine Oil ?

Thanks to all for the advice on my first Oil change, the new Euro Service is at 12,000 miles or 12 mounths but i need some further help.

I have around 500 miles on the clock now and thought I should buy some oil to top up as required. the manual recommends 10W-30 premium grade detergent oil? Not having a clue rang my local dealer and was told to use Castrol Fully Synthetic GTX. Guess what Castrol don't make GTX as Fully Synthetic. I do no normal and synthetic oils should not be mixed so any idea whats in the car now?

I'm slightly confused. Are you saying that you are 500 miles past your first service or 500 miles total. If its 500 miles total, use a mineral oil like Halfords enhanced. some go to their local Fords dealers for 10W30 as this rating is a little difficult to find.

If its 500 miles after the first service, then the dealer will probably have used fully synthetic.

Stick with mineral oil until at least 4000 miles (the Honda oil that you have at the moment has some additives that help the engine bed in correctly)..... most advice seems to recommend waiting till 9000 miles before changing to synthetic eg Mobil 1.

I use Halfords 10W-30 mineral oil to top up (

Sorry just looked in the boot....... the Halfords oil is 5W-30 (as close as I could find to 10W-30)...... but again general opinion was that this was fine to add to 10W-30.

Yup I agree with the above consensus, Im currently topping up with Magnatec (i think its 10W 40) and have no problems, will continue to do so until 9000 miles when I can use something a bit more sexy.

I will be booking in for the 4000 mile interim (optional) service soon tho so I guess Honda will replace the current oil with 10W 30 Mineral rather than Synth ?

I use Mobil1 just because I asked my dealer what they reccommend. Not sure if it had mineral oil in before 18k?

My dealer has also recommended Castrol GTX Magnatec 10 -40 is this right? Judging by the previous posts I shouldn't be using a synthetic (only done 700 miles.)

Help!?!
