My S2K is 9 months old and has covered 16k miles so far. I use the revs a reasonable amount to achieve an adequate level of performance, but not excessively in my opinion. It consumes about 1 litre of engine oil per 1K miles which seems excessive to me. What is your experience?

In my experience over the lst 9k (or the first 9k depending how you look at it) I have used about 4-5 litres of oil.

I have noticed that if you cane it a lot the oil consumption increases. I also think that if you don't give the car long enough to warm up (I always give 10 minutes) then oil consumption will increase.

1 litre per 1000 miles is excessive and you should speak to your dealer.

If you read some of the oil threads you will see that the cars seem to have very different levels of consumption, some high, some low. Don't know why.
I agree with moff that you should check with your dealer, although they will probably say that it is within the expected range for this car.
Mine at the moment seems to consume about 1 litre per 2000 miles which included a weeks drive in Scotland and a track day so reasonable amounts of

Forgot to add - just make sure you keep checking the oil level very regularly, at least once a week for the moment.

Regularly check the oil, especially from new! (bit of name dropping here as I have insider info ) Vicky Butler-Henderson had an S2000 engine go as she never checked the oil. She now checks them regularly!

Mine used a bit of oil up to about 12/14k and has used up virtually no oil in the last 5/6k miles.

Basically, up to 15k miles, check weekly then after that monthly if it seems to stop using up oil by then.

Going from memory of how many empty oil bottles I have in my garage, my car uses 5/6ths of a litre for every 1,000 miles so I'm not too far behind you.

My car gets a 3 mile warm up before VTEC in the morning and due to traffic, about 6 miles on the way home , but agree with moff that using the full rev range will use a bit more oil.

Its an 02 (1 year 4 months old) and currently at 16,000 miles.

I think of it this way, the car is getting a fresh supply of oil between services

What type of oil are you putting in there anyway?

mine uses 1 litre/1000 miles but......all the miles are 'hard' it's a toy car and doesn't cruise much....it get's taken out and thrashed to within an inch of it's life

I guess this explains the oil consumption

I use Shell Helix Ultra... only because I can get it at the same time as I fill up with Optimax and because I can pay with my fuel card

I buy 4 litre bottles at a time now

Thanks to all for your helpful advice. Mine certainly gets warmed up before using VTEC and the shortest run due to the nearest centre of population is c7 miles. Each day I travel 25 miles to my office one way, and generally only using VTEC on the way home, depending on the traffic.

I must say its great fun to drive but probably more as a second car.
