Engine re build
I'm thinking of getting the engine re built in my S2 while i'm building up the shell.
Anny reccomendations for this? Good experiences, bad experiences.

People will tell you that in the UK their hasn't been many success stories, but when you look over the pond people rebuild them on a daily basis
I'd spend a bit of money on uprated: valve spring, retainers & heat studs etc....
Have a read on the FI forum there's lots of built engines on there.

It seems the fiddly parts are the sleeves.
If you can get away with it, leaving the sleeves and sorting the rest of the engine should hold no surprises.
The only thing specialist you need to do is match the main bearing sizes for tolerance.

Main problem is the FRM sleeve, you can only use OEM or Mahle piston to use with the OEM sleeve and the limit is only 0.5mm oversize max on stock sleeve.
If you go for Darton then you can use any piston. Apart from that the rest is pretty much the same like all other engine, Bearing sizes, clearance and torque setting are both basic practice on any engine build.

The main problem (from a non mechanical persons POV) is that the tolerances that HONDA use to build an F20C engine simply cannot be matched in a back street garage, or any garage come to that. Personally I would never touch a rebuilt F20C engine, and I would never have an F20C engine rebuilt, I would buy another instead. Just my 5pence worth.

No is not that, bearing, piston to wall and all clearance is pretty simple on the S2000. Is not anything too special. As long as you pasti gauge the bearing and use correct size then will be fine. Honda got 6 seized available.

Why build one??? I have a 09 engine with 6500 miles on it' if you feel nervous about a late engine turn it upside down and put new shells/thrust bearings in it and it's good to go.

I've had mine rebuilt and even though I'm out in Gibraltar, Richard from TTS (HORSEPOWER I think??) put me onto an outfit in the UK that were able to re-sleeve my block with Darton MID's. I bought everything from Turbokits in the US and touch wood 25000kms and 2.5years later no problems to report. If you look in my sig there's a list of things done and a link to some pics so you can see what the block looked like.
It was 400quid for the work on the block and the guy did an excellent job! Depending on whether you're going to keep the car NA or looking at FI, he will hone the sleeves accordingly too. It's not cheap but gives you more of a feeling of it's yours and not just another lump dropped in if that makes sense.

This is a viewpoint i've come across before and never bought it (no offence). It's an engine, it can be re-built it just takes the right knowledge!
Ta to Dixon and the chap from Gibraltar, Those liners look the very job. I do like a company that puts exact machining drawings up on it's site for free!
However i'm guessing I only need go down that route if my bores are shagged... though if it's apart anyway seems like a good move...
