Default Engine Stutter

Hi All,

My S is still intermittently stuttering

It feels like it's a MAP problem - I've had to give it a whack on a few occasions.

The stealers seem at a loss as to the problem and have come back to me saying that the wiring loom needs replacing!! "That'll be

Didn't Euan have a wiring problem that caused similar effects? Describe the stutter? My car isn't the smoothest and my dealer just isn't interested as it has an aftermarket exhaust so they just blamed that and the lack of backpressure

Describe the stutter?
Took the car back in to stealers last Monday 'cos of stutter. Got car back last Friday after problem had 'fixed itself'. Drove it for about 20 minutes before it went again.

At idle the revs will drop very low - the ECU recorded a misfire when the RPM was about 400! Sounds like a complete bag of spanners (very embarrasing when in town ) - kangaroos on cruise and acceleration.

If it was doing this on my old bike I would say it was suffering from 'carb icing'. Trouble is that it runs perfectly for a while before developing the fault.

Does that help any?

I'm sure it was Euan's car.

I think Saxo's car may need the dealer replacing!

Euan's problem didn't have the same symptoms as you describe.
His engine would just die while you were driving along. It was like driving into a brick wall.
I'm sure he'll be along to advise.

jinger, I'd recommend a trip down to Norton Way Honda, they are not too far awy from you, in Letchworth. Get a second opinion from them

*ok I was wrong *

How they can conclude that without testing it. Give me a tenner and I will sort your throttle cable!

Just read your description.

Check throttle cable
Check for air leaks - all hoses around the manifold etc
Check injectors clear - maybe put some cleaner in the tank
Is your car using a lot of fuel?
Does it pull fine on VTEC?

The misfire the ECU picked up is a likely result of the problem rather than the cause.

I have some other checks if those dont work.

PS - the fact your idle is low could suggest a number of things.

Poor compression or air leaks are some mechanical ones.

Electrical ones are more tricky to find.

I will double check but the idle on the Honda is goverend by 2 main things. 1st of which is the ISCV (idle control valve) and I think the throttle pos sensor (TPS which is on the throttle body) tells the ISCV when to take over. I dont think its the ISCV because you have the prob on the move.

2 other major influences on the idle, but which also affect the cars fuelling on the move are the MAP and the lambda sensor. I would bet on one of these, or a leak somewhere by process of deduction.

If the car is ok on VTEC, then I would more suspect the lambda, but ive not heard of one fail on the S.

Also check the intake is totally clear.

I have a spare MAP if you want to borrow that?

Also reset the ECU.

My car does exactly the same. Was doing it today even. Dealer not interested because of the exhaust despite being in warranty. I've learned to put up with it. I just let it recover itself and when it sometimes stalls I just start it back up again.

I'll let you know if I solve my problem and would appreciate the same in return
