Engine Stutter
hi guys,
similar problem and i took it to a honda dealer where a good friend of the family works and he did state to me that the prob would be the wiring loom, as on the earlier models they were not correct ( cant remember his exact diagnostic) but he stated that the later models they changed the loom and it was better,
also stated was nothin to worry about and would cost alot if to replace
so i am sticking with it, and well u get used to it lol
cheers

Im sad and like these sort of probs (not nice being on the other end of them!) If I wasnt too far away id offer to have a play.
One thing ive noticed on mine, when my idle was bad, was that my TPS wasnt setup right. It needs to read about 0.45v when foot off the throttle, and mine was reading 0.07 which is out of range. Adjusting it on the 2 bolts helped a long way. Need a multimeter or diagnostics to do it though.
Regarding the loom, im not entirely sure but given that all the wires are insulated, I wouldnt think so. Im no expert there though. A bad earth can cause some probs, so check your battery earth is nice and clean.
I know they modified the MAP wiring support on later cars, but I dont think that was the problem!
Again, I have a spare MAP if anyone wants to try swapping it for theirs?
PS - can you answer these?
Is your car using a lot of fuel? Blackened exhaust tips?
Does it pull fine on VTEC?

Mine was only ever a problem on warm start ups.
It took the dealer a while to identify it because the CEL code was not specific enough to say waht was causing the error - they ahd to keep replacing things until they found the bit that stopped the error (or something like that).
I had a few looms replaced (all under warranty as car was new) - apparently it was the connector to a sensor near the cat which became corroded and sent the wrong signals - sometimes they aere able to clean up the connector, sometimes they had to repalce the loom from the cat to the engine bay. Latterly they had to replace the ECU (

Sounds nasty Euan
What amazes me is that they said the ECU pins were corroded? The ECU is inside the passenger footwell, pointing sideways, and unless water was tracking through the grommet in the footwell, I can see how they would get wet? Did they show you it?

Fuel economy is fantastic though

I wonder if the corrosion had been going on so long that it had made it's way up the loom wiring to the pins - only explanation I can think of. They did have problems with water ingress on the passenger side of the car, where I think there is a harness that goes down to the exhaust or somewhere else. It could be that there was moisture in the that area - I never carried a passenger, so might not have been aware of it. They did try to fit a bit of plastic in the corner of the engine bay to stop the water getting in (after speaking at length to HUK), but it was never going to fit very well (siliconned in), and I don't know how effective it was.
