Well car is back with another engine.
It all seems ok so far, although have noticed a slight sticking in revs, remember old engine uses to sit at 1000 revs idle, now sits around 1500 and a little blurt of acc pedal brings her back down to 1000!
Maybe a touch of wd40 may help!?

No; you probably need to let the ECU do the re-learn cycle (let the cooling fans cut in a couple of times) because it's been disconnected.

(IOW, just ignore it!)

Indeed.

The ECU has a 10min learning cycle when the car should be started and then left completely alone for a minimum of 10 mins.

Might be worth resetting the ECU and trying this.

Idle learn procedure is as follows (taken from the service manual):
  1. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio, rear window defogger, lights, etc.) are turned off.
  2. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000rpm with no load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or the engine coolant temperature reaches 176F (80C) - 212F (100C).
  3. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with the throttle fully closed and with all electrical items off.
NOTE: If the radiator fan comes on during this step, the time when it is operating must not be included in the 5 minutes.
