Default Event Tyres

Used Event Tyres to replace the rears yesterday (after less than 8000 miles) and I was somewhat disappointed.

Drove the car home last night from work and thought jeeze this is a bit twitchy and assumed it was just because the tyres were so new (MZs by the way) only to discover this morning that the tyres has been inflated to 37 PSI. I would have expected the fitter to know the required pressures. Also the fitter did not invite me to inspect the wheels prior to payment and the payment system did not work so he had to make a phone call to authorise the payment which means I don't actually have a credit card receipt for the payment. All in all, not particularly impressed despite the recommendations from here...

Did he not ask you what pressures you wanted?

I've had 7 or 8 sets from event now and they've been excellent except once when they brought the wrong tyres. Sorted very quickly though.

How and when did you measure the pressures?

I think Event have always sent me a receipt through the post.

No he didn't ask what pressure I wanted and I didn't think to mention it as I always have them at standard. I checked the pressure an hour after I got back.

I checked a tyre I'd had repaired on another car this morning and guess what? Yep it was 5 psi over inflated.

Golden rule. Always check your tyre pressures More worrying is the small print on the Event invoice saying that wheel nuts should be checked for tightness after 30 miles (or something similar) I seem to recall. Who checks their wheel nuts after going to a tyre place Its like me saying to a customer oh erm check your swivel is tight under your cistern oh and while you're at it just check that speed fit elbow under the bath is tight

I'm not dissin Event though. Always found them to be excellent

PMSL OP just had to double check your user name. I thought it said "Beaverlever" Must get an appointment at the opticians

I always use Event (afte getting them to price match)
Never had a problem with them (I do watch the guy work to keep him on his toes )
I check all the pressures after to be sure I'm happy with them
Most places make the wheel torque comment for safety's sake
Not a bad idea if any wheel has been off for any reason TBH

I've also never had tyre pressures set correctly on fitting by any one and if you thought it was skittish at 37psi, try them with pressures ranging from 40 to 43 as the last fitter kindly waved me off with

Never used Event but I'd not let a psi error put me off doing so given their rep on here.

Part and parcel of owning a 'driving' car is paying attention to this stuff. I always check pressures after new tyres are fitted, good job i checked the fronts - after 4 months off the car, they'd dropped to 1.5bar - Event tyres fitted 2 new rears for me, checked to correct pressure and correct orientation by the fitter. Usual good quality service.

The checking of wheel nuts ( despite event torquing them correctly) is also just good practice and no, i don't own a torque wrench - i prefer the feel of a normal extended bar and they usually need a fresh nip up a couple of days later.

I just had my car serviced by Honda and they swore to me the tyre pressures were 32psi all round. Got home and checked it and the pressure ranged from 25 --> 28psi. No wonder the car was handling like a bag of shit! Tyre pressures are a nightmare. I have used Event for years and never had any problems like you! Sounds like a dodgy fitter, they have always been exemplary with me.
