When my tyres were done recently the fitter pointed out I had the same from the last time and he said it was when they didn't put the right height on the removal machine - said the last place were clearly shoddy..

I would take it down to a good independant fitter and get his thoughts to go back with...

I paid on my Barclaycard, so I will use their complaints procedure (which are excellent).
FYI - Consumer Credit Act 1797 Section 75 - breach of contract with Event tyres = Barclaycard are j&S liable for cost of repair. They may try to argue betterment and offer a partial payment. See how you get on

Well, having sent the photos in, I have had a suitably predictable reply....

From Event Tyres...

Good morning
thank you for the pictures, the paint has been removed from a portion of one of the wheels but only due to the wheel having been already kerbed knocked etc.
you can tell this because were the paint has come off the marks are smooth, the edge of the wheel however is rough and also most importantly dirty with jarred edges, from kerbing etc.
to conclude some paint has come during fitting because the wheel had already been kerbed or damaged making the rim uneven.
we will not pay for the wheel to be refurbished on this occasion.
many thanks

Sounds like a stock reply to me...No way is that due to kerbing. I slightly touched the kerb the other day (I'm so annoyed as I'm usually so careful)
The damage is far worse than that, the "jarred" edges would be a lot rougher and the dirt looks more like rubber marks than dirt.

It did sound like he did a rush job. Even Kwik-fit don't work that fast!

has the wheel been refurbed at any time?

a DIY refurb will not normally stand up to the pressure exerted/rubbing caused by tyre fitting

That was my first thought, the paint is soft and if refurbed then that damage is likely, I know from experience as it happened to mine recently (Not with event, they are very good usually).

I may get mine powder coated in the future for exactly this reason.

I don't know about refurbs, as I've only owned the car for 6-ish weeks. All four alloys are in superb condition, so I presume that they have all been completely refurbed at some point. Unless they are pampered originals. The rest of the car is like new, so I don't see why not.

There's your answer then.

Looks like Event may have a point, albeit argued in a poor way.

I still don't see how they have a point. They damaged the alloy, but where blaming it on previous kerbing - that is their diagnosis.
