I wonder how the sound of this compares to replacing the middle section of a standard exhaust with a straight pipe

Why don't you be the first to try it - and let us know!?

I'd have thought it would be more expensive to do though?

the pipe might be more expensive, but it would be less work to cut out the silencer and weld in the straight section. And you'll probably save some weight!

Won't be me finding it out (I've got a Mugen exhaust) but there's some vids on youtube with the centre section removed and they sound nice and throaty

Really...? Sounds good.

Would you mind sharing a couple of links? I wouldn't know what to search for on YouTube.

Instead of using the 'Insert Link' button on the text editor, use the 'Insert Media' button which is 5 icons to the right . Have a go, then hit 'Preview Post' as you'll be able to see how it turns out...

Ok guys and girls, here are my results from this morning's work.

Got my guys at work to do the welding and cutting work using 28mm internal diameter piping. Here's some pics:

It sounds very subtle in the car, I almost thought there was no difference unless under full throttle, however i did a video of before and after, and, Well hear for yourselves....

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Much more rasp afterwards! I think it sounds great, and absolutely no drone whatsoever.

Many thanks to Oxhouser, and Ang for the ideas and method. A Mod well worth doing in my book!

Oh and just one more gratuitous pic of my car because I washed her to treat her after me fiddling with her all morning....

Thinks that's a good sound, unfortunately the wind sounds obscure the true note in Simonix's vid but both sound good without being police/neighbour unfriendly, not that I really care about the neighbours, one has a Harley that gets left to tickover for ages on unsilenced pipes, and the other is behind a big fence that'll block the sound.
Going to speak to my welder this week.
