Default F1 GSD2s

Does anyone else notice they run with more psi in these than would have been used in the Bridgestones?

I've been experimenting with pressures since I put the F1s on. Started at 34 (which is what I find is the best compromise on S02s) and things were 'OK'. Gone to 32 and the ride is cr@p, inconsistent and at times quite insecure. Gone up to 35 today and things so far have been transformed (maybe because it felt so poor at 32?). Will see how things go over the next few days, but interested in anyone else's experiences. With these tyres on the car generally wants to tramline more at any pressure, and that's only made worse by our rubbish roads

I know there are a few fans of the Goodyears here, but I've not been that impressed so far with last winter and this. Any suggestions for a good 'winter' tyre other than these?

Toyos might be worth a try next time around. Interesting you run higher pressures than the S02s. That seems to be my solution too, but the actual pressures themselves need to be higher to cope with our roads.

Thanks Ian

I run GSD2s at 32. Stops the tyres wearing prematurely across the middle.

If you want full on winter tyres, the Goodyear Ultragrip GW3s are good, although you'll have to run them at 35 psi to get any feel.

Run them lower than that and the sidewall flex gets much worse - any higher and it's like driving on marbles.

Thanks for the posts chaps.

It's not that I need to deal with snow or anything, but I wouldn't mind looking for an alternative to the F1s. The Ultragrip sound pretty hairy, no? Too much pressure no grip, too little, no feel - is it that bad/tricky?

Bassoctopus, i fyou run the F1s at 32, have you used S02s sufficient to make a comparison? I was trying to figure if there's a relationship between the 2 tyres/settings as my findings so far are that a higher psi is needed to get the grip.

Does anyone else agree over the tramlining these tyres seem to suffer from or is it just me/my car?

No. I have driven a lot of S2ks but not close enough to be able to do any comparison.

When I got my car it was running on the wrong S02s so I got them changed straight to F1s.

They actually grip surprisingly well, and make driving in the wet much more relaxing. They do feel very odd, and take a bit of getting used to as the back seems to be moving around a lot, when in fact it's just the flex of the soft sidewalls.
At times, I often wish I had the SO2s back on, but it depends on the conditions and also the road surface. Probably overkill if you don't need to deal with snow though.

I ran GSD2s at 34psi. I found 32psi a bit to soft for hard cornering.

Tyre ware as never been a problem for me .... I only ever get ~ 4500miles no matter what make/size/pressure of tyre.

(I have my GSD3s at 32psi and they are fine)
