yeah, i know of that mod done on other cars... i'll get that done myself. hardly worth getting it booked into dealer for that. plus it's an import. the one in shirley (brimingham) didnt wanna know.

interesting post though:

if i fit a map sensor from a 92 civic/accord, i'll get faster throttle response at the cost of emmisions - might also end up cheaper and maybe same-day parts...
More emissions mean your cat will fail quicker = Lot bigger bill than just buying the correct map sensor.

IMO get it working exactly how it should. Before throwing more variables into the equation!

Im not convinced bythat MAP swap anyway, sounds like bollocks. MAP sensor scaling (0-5v) is pretty standard although you can get higher pressure ones for turbo applications.

But all the interpretation of the signal is done by the ECU - so I doubt it will do anything at all.

But you would be foolish to try it without knowing intricate details of one of the most important sensors on the car...

Fit it then reset the ECU.

Im not convinced it will cure your problems, but it might make the car a little smoother. I think you may have injector probs.

cant remember if i posted or not - but i did whack some injector cleaner down it (stp brand) didnt make one iota of difference...
if map dont solve it, then i'll swap around the injectors and see if misfire moves cylinders. if not, then dealer/specialist garage it will have to go!

map fitted, no fix... unless the ECU needs to re-tune itself to the map sensors characturistics.. getting the same problem as before!
*sigh*. looks like i bought a shed!

someone care to run through this list for me (taken from FAQ thread)?
- Misfires are slightly different but can have some similar causes (more often than not its the MAP sensor if above 6000 rpm):
^ just been changed

-Failed or failing MAP sensor
^ just been changed

Damaged coil packs
^swapped 1 with 2, and 3 with 4 - misfire staying on same two cylinders

Worn or damaged spark plugs
^just been replaced with NGK's.

Damaged Crank Position Sensor
^ ? wouldnt this show itself at idle/lower revs aswell as 6000+rpm?

Corroded ECu wires - this has been found on a number of cars and isnt easy to detect or fix!
^ i presume they show corrosion on the ECU pins aswell?

Failed or failing O2 or lambda sensor
^ mpg seems fine, and surely ECU would throw an O2 sensor fault

Air leaks (on the vacuum side)
^possible i guess, but the easily accessible pipes look ok - no splits or chafes

depending how easy/hard it is, im just gonna whip injectors around and see how it handles then - see if misfire moves

edit: just to sum up the previous posts and re-iterate my problem:
car drives perfect around town. no misfires or such when driving under 5k rpm.
a little bit fluctuating idle, but evens itself out after 1 or 2 dips in revs (almost stalls, then back upto ~900rpm). ECU light blinks when hitting VTEC at 6k rpm. light goes off a few moments after vtec is disengaged. engine off, engine on, take into vtec again, light blinks and stays on (honda manual says it should if problem persists for more than 1 drive cycle)
fual consumption ok - got ~330mile/tank last weekend.
there is a little kick at 5.5-6k rpm - i presume this is either vtec cams kicking in, without the fuel map, or the fuel map kicking in but no vtec cams. something does definately happen at 5.5-6k rpm though.
fault codes have been P0301 and P0303. cyl1 and cyl3 misfires. always the same 2

I'd say its the injectors

(02 rarely throws a CEL but its unlikely its this)

You've done all the cheap things. Must be worth looking at the injectors.

From what you say about the history the car might never have been revved into VTEC range during the previous owners tenure.

found a link on a search of these forums - http://www.baustnet.com/honda/misc/dtc.htm but site is down.
i was on it the other day, and im sure it told me how to get the blink codes with a jump wired. i THINK between pin9 and pin1 or 16. i just aint sure which one.
anyone know which pins to bridge to get blink codes? wont have a code reader till monday

must say, swaping the injectors around was a really easy job. 20mins and it was apart, swapped and back together! wd honda for making it so easy!

next im gonna do is pull off the cam cover - gonna check clearances and vtec solenoid make sure it aint sticking, or something (heaven forbid) something fallen off/loose.

just to prep me for the worse, whats the price on an injector?

No probs.

So if you have now swapped the injectors, does it misfire on the other cylinders?

On thing at a time and all that!
