Default First Service - Any tips???

My late 2001 model is due for its first service (9k) soon.

Can I rely on the dealer to do the necessary work correctly?

Or do you have any tips for things I need to request/stipulate?

Thanks in advance for any info.

If you're making the change to fully synthetic, they shouldn't object if you want to supply your own oil. They're unlikely to stock the better oils, Mobil 1 for example. Make sure yoiu supply 2 full cans, although you will get most of the 2nd can back for topping up. There shouldn't be a problem it's a simple service. I always make sure that my car is absolutely immaculate when I present it for service, on the grounds that if you give the impression you don't give a toss about the car why should they?

ask them about the spark plug and/or oil bolt recall i.e. if you can at least get the spark plug one done at the same time as your service it will save a bit of hassle

Once bitten for me...

I always go to Honda Dealers now after a bad service from an independant Honda "Specialist"

I now use Guy Salmon in Thames Ditton, you get TOP service, they are expensive, and they may not be experts on the S2000, but which garage are?

They did a really good job on my car, fitted a new map sensor, and changed the plugs... it had only gone into the independant garage about 2-3 weeks before and they didnt seem to do anything apart from change the oil and filter... a bit strange for a medium service and quite a bit of cash.

The car was misfiring on 3 cylinders and they(independent) didnt pick that up (you couldn't tell really from the sound but the diagnostic pc picked it up)

Anyway..ramble ramble.

Go to Honda, The Work always seems top notch and its guarenteed

Den, Tonky hit the nail on the head earlier.... if Honda don't do the oil bolt mod at the same time as your service then don't buy any expensive oil!! The oil bolt recall requires the dealer to drop the car's sump so new oil will be needed, if you'd just forked out for Mobil 1 at your service you'd be a bit gutted!

I went to Thames Ditton Honda service centre the other day (my rear tow hook cover plate fell off ).

I asked them about the oil bolt recall - they said that it hadn't gone live in the UK yet, but were aware that it had been going through in the Netherlands.

When I mentioned the spark plug recall they hadn't even heard of that one

Anyone else got any other updates on these recalls, or similar / different experiences with Honda dealers when asking about these recalls?

Mine goes in for it's first service next Saturday. I'll ask them about the recalls when I'm there.

De Vries of York, use Mobil One for all S2000s as part of their standard service.
27,000 mile service at 21500, cost

Cheers All,

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Is Mobil 1 available in 10W-30 viscosity which is recommended in my handbook? Honda seem to use 10W-40. Also Cedric this may sound stupid but how much is in a can? Does it just come in one size?

I'm also interested in your recommendation for the best place to buy it? My local Halfords stock seems low on higher quality oils.

Incidentally Mark I'd be interested in whether you can be more successful than I was in getting a replacement rear tow hook cover plate on warranty. They suggeted mine fell off because I reversed into something.
How could they? It fell off all by itself!!!! Seriously, I think it did.

Finally, any ideas about a low rumbly sound coming from around the offside front wheel, over about 20 mph and not affected by engine speed? Something needs grease? Or tire noise? Tire looks OK visually. Ride is OK. Any thoughts appreciated.

Den.

You need two 4 litre cans. I don't see it in smaller sizes. I get mine from Halfords but I'm lucky in having a large store close at hand. I and others on the board use 0-40 viscosity, but you should be able to get 10-30 if you look around. I wouldd'nt worry about the tow hook cover plate, they're only about
