Thumbs up First timer question

Hi all

It is the first time I am posting on this forum. I am currently looking to purchase my first s2000, might be a bit late now that the model has been discontinued but I still believe it is a great car to have fun with. I've had several Honda's in the past including an ek9 but never an s2k.

I have two questions:

1. Would you recommend the s2000 as a daily runner?
2. Whilst browsing around for cars currently for sale I am noticing some of them having the soft top not completely retracted when it is open - why is that?

I would appreciate if someone could point out a buyer's guide.

Thanks

CA

1. A lot of owners (including myself), run their S as a daily driver. Rock solid reliability, and, with the right tyres, a real all rounder.

2. The hood doesn't go all the way down. On some cars and in the cold, its more pronounced. You can "help it" down by helping the fold by pushing just below the screen as it goes down.

The Tech FAQ will answer most of your questions.

Welcome !

I've had my s2000 as my only car since I got it in November 2007. I've not had any issues at all to date, and would recommend it to all as a daily.

Regarding the roof, I believe this can be down to weak elastic. This can be replaced for cheap (sub £50 certainly) and I personally dont believe is anything to worry about.

As per my other learned poster points out, memorise the FAQ, and ask away after you have done this... it gets old everyone asking the same !! (not that you have, never seen a question about roofs not being low before !)

+1 for a daily driver, and nothing puts a smile on the face like a bit of VTEC on the way to work!

My roof generally sits proud when it's cold, if you part raise it, then lower it again a few times it warms it up a bit and it sits into place OK.

Lucky someone put a muzzle on Gas.

Mines a daily drive. Had it for three years now. Absolutely loved it. Its does the daily run to work with abit of Vtec to keep you sharpe in the morning. Ive driven to Italy in it, amazing! and its great for a run on a sunday morning.

Snow. This would be my only concern. Its not that you can use it on snow but in slush i was going now where and got a lift to work or borrowed Kels golf. 52 week per year and only 2-3week of snow so dont let it put you off.

Having said all that alot of people were going nowhere in FWD cars.

Go for it!!

I cant seem to find in the FAQ about the ride hight of the roof when down, mine sits about an inch higher then it used to with the old roof which had a plastic window.

On average I do approx 600 miles a week in my S2k and it was only the last week in Dec and the first week in Jan that the snow and ice prevented me from driving it. I changed for my roof to a Mohair one and it sits a little higher than the old one, but not so much that you would notice

You know the kind of resessed plastic handle in the middle of the soft top between the two catches (that I guess would be used if it wasn't electric)? If that handle sits lower than the edge of the tub that the roof sits in when it's folded, then it's folded as far as it'll go. (I hope that makes sense).

If it's higher, then it probably hasn't folded quite properly, which can do somtimes when it's cold. Its just a case of when it's half folded, pushing the bar that normaly goes across over your head, backward (it should be pulled back by the elastic but the roof can be a bit stiff when cold). Then it should fold completly.

I use mine as a daily drive. It's ok, a little loud in the cabin, but a good compromise considering the fun factor.
