Default Flashing CEL

Can anyone help, I went to pop to the bank earlier and when I started it up it felt a bit lumpy, put it down to being cold but then a few seconds later the CEL started flashing. I haven't got a read code yet, where is the diagnostic plug and how do I read it - is it the same as Civics?

I've checked the oil, its low but still above the minimum. Coolant overflow tank is at the mark, but there is a burnt-type smell coming from the engine bay and a bit from the cockpit I guess.

I haven't done anything unusual to it, just filled it up with petrol this morning, and 99% sure it was petrol as well. Only thing was that it was brimming over which I just put down to be being ambitious to fit in as much as possible?

Any ideas?

Sorry to hear this.

IIRC, a steady CEL means warning.

However, a flashing CEL means DON'T DRIVE it.

If you have breakdown cover, I'd call them (remember it needs to be a low-loader), and get the car seen to by a mechanic.

Diagnostic plug is on the right hand side of the passenger footwell, sort of just behind the stereo. I think you need to pull the circular (ish) panel off on the side of the console.

It's detected a misfire probably. As Bharat said, don't drive it.

Is there any oil leaking to the floor?

I'm at work at I live 20 miles from home. Is there no other option? There's no oil on the floor, is it possible that I just flooded the engine by overfilling it?

Can you read the CELs without a diagnostic i.e. shorting the plug?

Engine won't be flooded I don't think, certainly not from overfilling the tank.

You probably have a nackered coil pack or something similar, but I wouldn't be driving it home unless you know for sure. RAC or AA will probably be able to read a code.

Potentially serious issue... it could be much cheaper in the medium term to deal with this as suggested.

Get the code read and the issue addressed or get it to somewhere that can on the back of a low loader...

Ref reading the code - no, there's no paperclip in the plug solution on the S I'm afraid. It's OBDII reader only!

Hope it's nothing too pricey or long winded.
