Thanks Gents,
since it's booked in, I will let them have a look at it, but it's good to have some background info.

PWE 896 - I had just started typing the post when a message came up saying I had exceeded my posting limit? I wondered where it went. now I know cheers.

Hi, I'm a new owner of two weeks. Love the car and love the site it has been a mine of information already.

I know the thread is a few months old now but I too have been suffering with low speed jerkiness and a couple of instances of kagarooing. I was wondering what, if any, feedback you got from the garage when it went in?

I have asked my local dealer about this and they simply said that they have found all s2k's to be jerky at low speed. However, to be fair, I mentioned some of the points in the discussion above and they are going to take it up with Honda.

Hi Biffa

I had this a lot initially - as well as engine management light coming on. Dealer suggested I stop using supermarket fuel (I was using Sainsbury's SUL) - when I switched exclusively to Optimax the problem disappeared (although I don't do much stop/start heavy traffic driving - thats what buses are for!)

If you are not using non-supermarket SUL / Optimax a change of drinking habits ought to help.

I will not try this agian, no idea why it posted the prevoius, half way through typing?

Anyway, they found nothing wrong, took it for a test drive etc. the only thing they could offer was to wait till they got an upgrade on there diagnostic computer. This would allow them to capture the ECU info one minute before the fault happened to one minute after.

Not took it back in though, just got use to it.

I also run my car on a mix of Optimax and normal UL depending what I'm doing. I use it as my company car, and if i'm just going to a meeting on the motorway, and i will use a tank in the day i put normal UL in.

Anyway whilst in france it always drank Super UL and at time the flat spot in traffic was terrible...........but i can forgive her that one fault..............................However DON't get me on the bloody boot release!............feel a new thread coming on!

I had a similar issue that I asked about 6 weeks ago. For me it only occurred when restating the car from warm and then only in the first minute of driving. It was very dangerous as you never quite knew whether you could pull out into traffic or not. Anyway, it is fixed now. But I am still quite sure it is closely related to the problems reported by many others.

The diagnose was that the tappets were to tight. Specifically as the engine is turned off, the coolant is no longer circulating at this point the engine temperature actually starts to rise even though the engine is not running. As heat rises this it affects the top of the engine most (i.e. where the tappets are). The solution was to adjust the tappets. First they checked they were perfectly set according to the recommended settings. This did not fix it. So then they loosened as much as possible but still within the specified tolerances. The problem has no gone away, Hurrah!!!
The first thing that surprised about this was that the tappets are manually adjusted (Hydraulic tappet wont work correctly at such high revs), the other thing was that the adjustment itself was really tiny.
Hope this helps
Paul

Thanks Paul, I will suggest it to my dealer who has been in contact with the Honda techies and come back to me already. They are aware of the issue and are prepared to look at any suggested solutions.

They were themselves looking at an Air intake extension (as per Frisky's post above) with a manufacturer called Newgun (spelling?) but as the fitting involved cutting away part of the underside of the bonnet, leaving it structurally weakened, they didn't pursue it.

Thanks also to Gaza and Euan for the welcome and the fuel advice. I've only used Optimax to date mainly because that is what seems to be universally recommended but partly because the only Shell service stations near me are a decent drive away on dual carriageway
