Default FM transmitter

Has anyone tried using an FM transmitter in the s, rather than spending the money on a new unit and comply with the broadcasting laws in the UK?
I'm not sure which one to try, so thought I'd get an opinion from you guys...

I had a listen to Fletch's iPod using an iTrip - it was acceptable quality, but not as good as CD.

It's certainly cheaper than something like the proper Dension or Alpine iPod kits, but there's an obvious gulf in sound quality. You get what you pay for, I guess.... If you're not a hardcore audiophile, it should be OK for you.

A few mates of mine have them and they're pants. Crackly sound.

Best putting the money towards a proper iPod->ICE integration.

Yes I have, it's rubbish, like listening to a pirate radio station, plus as well if your on a long journey the chances are your going to pick up another radio station along the way so you'll have to re-tune the Ipod. I've go the I-trip, in total it cost me

Thanks for the links guys.
Not being in slightest bit technical, was it easy enough to install, and did you use the bracket, or put it in the cup holder?

I bought an Airplay Extreme. It's far better than the iTrip, plus it's cheaper too.

TBH, it all depends on how good/strong your aerial is. In the Astra it plays fine because the aerial is shite and you can only pick up a few stations so don't get any interference, but in the wifes car (Corsa) her pickup is really good and it's not so easy to find an empty frequency to tune in to.

You also need to set the volume low on your iPod otherwise it hisses.

Overall if you just want something to listen too and aren't fussed about the quality it's great, but if you're hardcore and want great sound quality don't bother with it.

Very Easy to install. It just plugs in the back of the stock radio.

I got a proclip mount and screwed the cradle to that.

[struggling to find a pic]

iTrip..........average quality and only good for short journeys. At the moment I actually use the tape cassette adaptor thingie which gives good sound. Got the iPod mounted on a cradle and the excess wire between iPod and stereo wrapped up and stuffed in the radio cover. Does the trick, is just as neat as Dension and is far cheaper. Having said that, if I could be bothered I'd go the Dension route as well!
