Default Focus ST to an S

I have had a focus ST-2 for 16 months. It's v quick/competent in all weathers, but just too easy and I think the car is in charge, not me.

On a recent track day the instructor said " you are driving quickly , but the car is getting you out of trouble all the time"

I know someone on here has gone from an S to a focus ST and seems v happy.
I know i am going to lose money but the lure of RWD and top down motoring is so strong

I would have to use it daily in winter too!
Any thoughts on my logic (or lack of!!)
anybody else moved from a "new age" hot hatch to an S?

I drove mine 50 miles a day for 18 months through summer and winter, not an issue at all.

If you cant drive it in the winter you are a pussy

I actually really like it in the wet.

If you are a shit driver it will find you out, just dont drive it like you are better than the car until you are fully used to how the back end reacts.

Contraversial statement but if you bin the S2000, you ran out of skill and got it wrong.

I have FWD (DC5) now and do think RWD is fundamentally better, if you now what you are doing...

The S rocks ive had two civic type-r's a 300bhp impreza and an escort cossie. The S is by far the most fun and easily my favourite out of them all. Mine is used as a daily driver summer and winter by my girlfriend. So if she is ok you should be fine.

I used mine for 2yrs (MY03 and then MY04) daily use including winter. I drive like flat out most of the time and never had an issue with the car trying to kill me. As long as you are alert then its a hoon!

I have used mine daily for two winters now with no real problems (25k per year in it). As long as you respond to the weather conditions and don't let your tyres get too worn down it isn't really a problem.

Oh and it's great fun too

I've supercharged mine and it's still a daily drive.

I had an S2000 in 2004 .... sold it and ended up with a 260bhp Scooby for a year. Quicker than the S but sooooo lacking in involvement when compared !

I have now sold the Scooby and gone back to another S2K and love it - I shouldn't have sold the 1st one ....

I used my last S every day no matter what the weather - and am doing the same with this one. It is more than capable and as has been said by DBM ; if you bin it, it will be down to the driver and their right foot, not really the car!

Drive an S and see if you like it - the ST is a good car but the involvement you get with the S and the ability to get the roof down whenever you want will put it in a different league. It may not feel as quick initially but you need a good drive - or maybe two. The S2K as a car is about the whole package .... it grabbed me but doesn't work for everyone.

Handling wise it is much more direct and short of a VX220 or Elise there is not too much that comes near the feel of the car.

Try and see if you enjoy - don't think about the money
